Central South University is the destination: materials and metallurgy, clinical medicine through the Xiangya school, and rail transit engineering through its railway campus. Xiangya in particular has a long reputation in Chinese medical education, and the university is large enough to host a broad range of international postgraduate students.
Changsha itself is inexpensive, lively and young. The media and entertainment industry gives the city a cultural profile out of proportion to its size, and the food is a genuine part of daily life rather than a tourist attraction. The trade-off is a domestic-facing job market and limited English outside campus.
